So tomorrow is the last day of the first week at my new job. Oddly enough I started work on tuesday, not on monday. At Connecta monday is the big day for internal meetings so noone would have been available to greet newcomers.
So far it has been quite dull which is to be expected; new equipment (computer, phone, …), new routines (several good meetings introducing us newcomers to procedures), a lot of “free” time since we don’t have an assignment yet. A day and a half was spent on an internal assignment to prepare middle management for an upcoming strategic meeting. The rest has been spent on installing virtual machines and applications. Nothing exciting so far but the job promises to be very exciting and educational and as I sit there I realize I have a lot to learn. This will be fun!
Still feel like a tourist in Stockholm. Some routines, like bustling on the subway was easily learnt, but finding good places to eat lunch without going broke is still a puzzle to be solved.
The flat is in disarray since I got rid of most of my furniture. Now I have plenty of boxes to unpack but nowhere to put the contents. This includes computers and such since I have no table and no chairs what so ever. Most clothes and kitchenwares have found a home but some haven’t. I also realize that I had plenty of closets and cupboards in my old flat which I miss here. I’m going to have to get rid of superfluous stuff just to be able to fit in the necessary stuff. Tradera will be my new best friend.
One big plus I noticed with my new flat is that it has been severly soundproofed, perhaps I can use my subwoofer as it is meant to be used. A downside to this was noted as my brother and I was about to fit a curtain rail to the ceiling. Everything was measured and we had marked where the screws needed to be. I warmed up the Hilti expecting a strenous challenge drilling a hole in my concrete ceiling. But boy was I wrong; the Hilti barely touched the ceiling before all resistance ceased and I was through. Turns out that the true ceiling is about four inches above the percieved ceiling which is made from plaster boards. The bad news is that I have to rethink how I mount the curtain rail. The good news is that I now can mount inlaid spotlights and other things in the ceiling. Oh, the possibilities …

Ahh! The joy of a new job.
By the way, get rid of your car
