Don’t you just hate when it happens; suddenly for no apparent reason the threshold is an inch higher than normal or a piece of furniture decides to jump in front of you as you walk by. As I got up this morning I stepped briskly (I’m a morning person) out of bed and headed for the light switch located by the door. Mid step my solid wood laundrybasket decided to inhabit the space my little toe was supposed to pass through. Quite naturally it didn’t, pass through that is. It stopped quite suddenly instead and any neighbour who wasn’t awake at six in the morning certainly were now. It was a kiai to be proud of.
My first thougt after ouch was; there goes that toenail. As I turned the light on I realized there was quite a lot of blood and hobbled to the bathroom. When my foot was taken care of I started sanitizing the apartment. Crawling around with a piece of paper soaking up bloodstains. This is an activity for the dojo - not my home. Luckily the bleeding stopped quickly and I found that the thing pointing at right angles to my toe wasn’t my nail but a flap of skin. All in all I got of easy with just under a square centimeter of skin going AWOL. Now there is just that dull throbbing left you usually get with an superficial injury. I will survive! ![]()

Ouch!
